What Tiba Tempeh does

Alex Longton spent over 15 years building some of the UK's best-known food brands, including Kraft Heinz, Lindt and Plenish, before founding Tiba Tempeh with her husband Ross. The idea was sparked on a trip to Indonesia, where they tasted fresh tempeh in a beachside restaurant and wondered why it was so hard to find in the UK. They set out to make tempeh delicious, accessible and mainstream - and it worked. Tiba Tempeh is now one of Britain's fastest-growing meat-free brands, stocked in Sainsbury's, Waitrose, Lidl, Morrisons and Ocado, and certified as a B-Corp for its commitment to people and planet.

Superpower: Turning Experience Into Action

"The best business ideas often come from asking why something great isn't available where you live."

What a young person can learn from this

  • A real business in food & drink started with a specific problem, not a perfect plan.
  • Turning Experience Into Action is a skill you can practise, not something you are born with.
  • How product & service development shows up in a real business.
  • How branding & marketing shows up in a real business.
  • How growth & scaling shows up in a real business.

Try this

Talk about it: What does it cost to make one unit, and what would you have to charge to cover that plus your time?

Then do it: Price one recipe or product: list every ingredient cost, add your time, then set a price.
